Abstract

|
Doenjang is one of the important fermented foods in Korea. The traditionally fermented soypaste, Doenjang, have higher anti-mutagenic activity than the raw soybeans, cooked soybeans, meju and other fermented soybeans. In this study, we investigated the anticancer effects of the water soluble factor of Doenjang extracts on human colon cancer HT-29 and CaCo-2 cells for a time. To identity the effects of the water soluble factor of Doenjang extracts, we treated the water soluble factor of Doenjang extracts on HT-29 and CaCo-2 cells for 24 h and 48 h. These results showed that HT-29 and CaCo-2 cells were slightly inhibited cell growth compared to control by WST-1 assay. The treatment of the water soluble factor of Doenjang extracts down-regulated gene expression of colon cancer bio-marker such as cox-2, tgf-beta receptor II and smad-4. It also down-regulated the expression of oncogenes related with cell proliferation, survival and metastasis such as her-2, cyclinD-1, myc, mmp14. Our data indicated that the water soluble factor of Doenjang extracts has anticancer effect on human colon cancer.
